I’ve been training in Shukokai Karate since 1992, when I first joined Sensei Phil Nicholl’s Exeter club. After many years of hard work, I was awarded my 1st Dan Black belt, at the age of 16, by Sensei Shigeru Kimura. I was then awarded my 2nd Dan Black belt, at the age of 21, by Sensei Paul Mitchell.
After some time spent as an assistant instructor in Exeter, and after heeding Sensei Phil’s advice that “you don’t really start learning until you start teaching”, I decided it was time to open a club of my own. When I moved to the Penwith (Penzance) area of Cornwall in 2005, I decided to really commit to Karate and to start teaching on a full-time basis. To that end, I simultaneously opened clubs at several different venues in the area.
In the time that I have been teaching, my clubs have really grown, and I am pleased with the progress that my students are making in their studies. I look forward to passing on my knowledge and experience to my students, and to continuing to improve my own knowledge and performance.
